This year Seminar is held in the framework of the 2nd Metamorphose Summer Training Week which brings together EU PhD School and the International Student Seminar. The School course entitled “Dielectric and Plasmonic Metamaterials: fabrication, properties and modelling techniques” will be held before the Seminar on 20-22 August 2007. The course will introduce students to fabrication and characterisation techniques, and modelling of wave phenomena in complex electromagnetic media.

Seminar Topics

Full time graduate and PhD students are invited to present at the Seminar their research and development results in the following areas:

  •  Novel composite materials and metamaterials and their applications
    • Backward-wave (negative refraction index) materials
    • Structures supporting surface plasmons
    • Bianisotropic media and media with strong spatial dispersion
    • Electromagnetic and photonic band gap structures
  • Active, smart, and controllable microwave and optical systems
    • Beam-steering and adaptive antennas using new materials or principles
    • Controllable impedance surfaces and screens
    • Small and conformal antennas for mobile equipment
    • Devices using new composite materials and artificial transmission lines
  • New prospective materials for microwave and optical technology
    • High-temperature superconductors
    • Microwave ferroelectrics and ferromagnetics
    • Low-temperature co-fired ceramics
