The Metamaterials Week in Barcelona (Spain) is an international event that comprises the 9th Metamorphose European Doctoral School on Metamaterials and the 2nd Young Scientist Meeting on Metamaterials (YSMM’08). In this edition, the PhD School is focused on the “Applications of Metamaterials in RF/Microwave Engineering”. The Young Scientist Meeting will continue the first Edition that was launched in Seville (Spain) at the end of 2006, and it will provide a forum for free discussion between young scientists working on Metamaterials and related topics. The YSMM'08 will be similar to any workshop or specialized conference. It will include several sessions where regular as well as invited papers will be presented. It is the aim of the organizers that the presence of these two events, the PhD School and the YSMM, in the same week and location will provide the necessary feedback to make the Metamaterials Week a success in terms of attendees.

Concerning the city, Barcelona is world wide famous for the modernist architecture, mainly represented by the temple of Sagrada Familia (very close to the Event building) and Parc Güell (both due to the architect Antonio Gaudí). Indeed, the Metamaterials Week will be held in Casa Convalescència, which is another example of this architectonic style, this being one of the reasons for choosing this place to held the event. Barcelona is also very well connected by flight or trains with most of the European cities, the whether is usually temperate in winter and it provides a good atmosphere to visitors.
